Rent The Cake! Why Renting Your Wedding Cake Can Save You Money!

Rent The Cake! Why Renting Your Wedding Cake Can Save You Money!

Now you can have your cake and eat it too! Over the past seven years that I’ve been making and creating wedding cakes, one trend that hasn’t escaped me is the increased demand for fake cakes. Each year, more and more money-savvy brides seem to be gravitating towards faux cakes for their big day! Why? Because ultimately they can get more bang for their buck.

This cake would normally cost $$$$

Savvy brides and grooms can rent this beauty at a fraction of the cost of the real thing.

These days, weddings play host to many exciting and unusual dessert offerings, long gone are the days when the only dessert that was served was the wedding cake. Now, brides and grooms have a whole host of delectable treats on offer, just last month I created a wedding cake for an event that served everything from donuts to miniature pies, candy floss, and cakecicles. The bride simply wasn’t all that interested in adding more sweets to the mix, but, she still wanted a statement cake to wow her guests and to pose with for photos.

Initially, she ordered a 8-tier cake and requested 50 real servings of cake, which I created a cost-price breakdown for, however, over time, she reduced the number of servings and instead asked for more bling. In the end, the cake we presented was ENTIRELY fake, and she LOVED it. After the wedding, she asked if I could pick it up because it was simply too large for her to store, she was finished with the cake and asked to keep a couple of the sugar flowers for prosperity. I walked away with a perfect, designer cake that was ready to go and play center stage at another event. It got me thinking. Perhaps there really is a market for entirely fake cakes here in the Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, DMV area. I reached out to many of my planner friends to get their take.

Rent the Cake

This entirely faux wedding cake is indistinguishable from the real thing and can be rented for less than 1/3rd of the cost of the real cake.

The answer was, “Absolutely!”. One planner said, “oh thank god, because I have wanted a cake rental place that I can refer my brides to.” Another booked me immediately.

The big question is, Are fake cakes more affordable? Yes, and No. If you approach a bakery and ask for a faux cake, most are going to charge you in a similar fashion as if they were creating a real cake. This is because they are creating a custom cake that you will take away. However, I will be creating a series of beautiful and unique cakes that can be rented “as is” for a set price, and then returned. Once the cake is returned, I will actually refund part of the rental fee, which means overall, brides and grooms can rent a luxurious cake for a fraction of the cost of the real thing. They can do this, because I can re-rent the cake to another lucky couple and split the overall cost of creating these dream cakes.

My iconic Love Script cake is 5-tiers and features blossom ruffles, sugar roses, diamonte crystals, edible pearls, and a beautiful Love script topper. If a couple were to order this cake, it would cost in excess of $2000. However, with my new Rent The Cake service, a couple can rent this cake for just $600, and even better, $150 is full refundable upon the return of the cake.

I am so excited to be able to offer this service, not only because I see a huge need for high-end rentable cakes in the DMV area, but because it allows me to meet the needs of millennial clients.

These days most of the cakes that brides and grooms drool over on Pinterest and in bridal magazines and blogs are most-likely faux cakes. Most people would struggle to tell the difference. So, if you are looking for a gorgeous cake but you can’t justify the price tag, why not rent it!
